GPNs encouraged to refer vulnerable patients for help from the NHS Volunteer Responders

What is it about? Health and social care professionals in England can refer any vulnerable patients who are self-isolating to NHS Volunteer Responders for help with tasks such as collecting shopping and prescribed medicines, driving patients to medical appointments or transporting supplies between sites.

Who is it for? Everyone.

 

Why you should use it? The scheme is already helping thousands of people every day and hundreds of thousands of volunteers are available to help. You can make referrals through the NHS Volunteer Responders referrers’ portal or by calling 0808 196 3382. The scheme is now open for self-referrals for people who have been advised to shield and those most at risk who are isolating at home from coronavirus. These people can ask volunteers for short-term help by calling 0808 196 3646 between 8am and 8pm. Please pass this number on to patients who could benefit from this support.

H&S ePROTECT Respiratory Infections

What is it about? Skills for Health has made accessible this course provided by the World Health Organisation (WHO). The learning package consists of videos and downloadable presentations.

Who is it for? This is a global accessible resource for medical personnel, volunteers and communities affected by Covid-19.

 

Why you should use it? It will enable all personnel responding to outbreaks of Acute Respiratory Infections (ARIs) to have the basic knowledge and skills to mount an effective response. You will understand what ARIs are, how they are transmitted, how to assess the risk of infection and to understand basic hygiene measures to protect yourself.

H&S General Public Stay Safe Advice

What is it about? A clear set of instructions and information from NHS on how to stay safe and effectively follow the government’s Covid-19 advice.

Who is it for? This guidance can be used by Covid-19 staff and volunteers working with the general public in supporting them to be informed and stay safe.

 

Why you should use it? The guidance is a good reference tool in ensuring a consistent NHS standard is maintained and in supporting the general public to stay safe and informed. The guidance creates awareness and informs you and the general public on how to stay safe and effectively respond to the Covid-19 pandemic.

What is it about? A short video produced by NHS, providing step by step instructions on how you can stay safe by following the Covid-19 guidance on washing your hands.

Who is it for? This video is for all health and social care personnel and volunteers.

What is it about? A short step by step video produced by Public Health England (PHE), illustrating how to put on Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Who is it for? This guidance and reference document can be used by Covid-19 medical personnel and volunteers.

Why you should use it? This guidance outlines infection control for healthcare providers assessing possible cases of COVID-19. This video shows how to safely don (put on) the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for Aerosol Generating Procedures (AGPs) specific to COVID-19.

Who is it for? This factsheet is for medical personnel and volunteers supporting informal carers.

Why you should use it? The factsheet provides a practical action based resource on how you and your team can effectively work with and support informal carers. A detailed breakdown of Carers concerns, how to provide care to Covid-19 patients, and overview of how to support bereaved carers.

Fire Safety Level 1

What is it about? The Fire Safety course is part of the 10 subjects that are statutory and mandatory training requirements for health and social care organisations.

Who is it for? This course is for all medical personnel, including paid and unpaid volunteers.

Why you should use it? Fire safety training is an essential requirement for the NHS in order to protect staff, patients, visitors and service users. This resource has been designed to cover induction level training and addresses the key principles in Fire Safety. It is mapped against the UK Core Skills Training Framework.

Moving & Handling Level 1

What is it about? The Moving & Handling course is part of the 10 subjects that are statutory and mandatory training requirements for health and social care organisations.

Who is it for? This course is for all medical personnel, including paid and unpaid volunteers.

Why you should use it? Moving and handling activity injuries cost the NHS £1 billion a year. Completing this course reduces the risk of injury. This resource has been designed to cover induction level training and addresses the key principles in Moving & Handling. It is mapped against the UK Core Skills Training Framework.

What is it about? The Information Governance course is part of the 10 subjects that are statutory and mandatory training requirements for health and social care organisations.

Who is it for? This course is for all medical personnel and volunteer staff involved in routine access to information.

Why you should use it? Information Governance is about dealing correctly with information. This course covers how to process information legally, securely, efficiently and effectively. This resource has been designed to addresses induction level key principles in Information Governance. What is it about? Community Prepared organisation has put together this useful training resource from Covid-19 support organisations and volunteers.

Who is it for? For organisations working with volunteers and for those volunteering during the Covid-19 pandemic period.

Why you should use it? A highly recommended and useful resource to inform and train organisations and individuals providing Covid-19 support services. The training resource provides organisations and volunteers with training on emergencies and their role during pandemics.

Covid-19 Communication Scripts Playbook

What is it about? A useful Covid-19 global communication training resource produced by Vital Talk (a US-based organisation).

Who is it for? For all Covid-19 staff and volunteers working in the health and social care sector.

Why you should use it? A very useful playbook to provide some practical advice on how to provide support to patients and talk about some difficult topics related to COVID-19. A scenario-based communication script training resource. It covers topics relating to screening, preferencing, triaging and admitting patients.

Who is it for? This is for all frontline staff, NHS workers, volunteers and employers.

Why you should use it? Coordinate My Care is an innovative NHS service that builds medical care around the wishes of each patient. Coordinate My Care can support members of the public, living in London to start their own CMC care plan.
